MILWAUKEE--Marquette University's Department of Intercollegiate Athletics recognized four individuals for their contributions to MU during National Alumni Awards weekend on Friday, April 28 at a ceremony in the Al McGuire Center.
The Lifetime Achievement Award was given to Kathleen M. Andrykowski (Bus Ad '80), while Thomas H. Ford, Jr., was given the M Club's Hy Popuch Memorial Service Award and Tatyana N. Pashibin (H Sci '16) and Robert (B.J.) Grill (Arts `15) were honored as co-recipients of the Robert L. and William P. McCahill Award.
Andrykowski, a former women's basketball and volleyball standout, played for Marquette from the 1977-80. Upon graduation, she was the program's all-time leading scorer for women's basketball and had her No. 21 uniform retired in 2005. The retiring of her jersey marked the first time a women's basketball jersey was retired at Marquette.
The Lifetime Achievement Award is given to an alumnus/a who as a student was a member of MU athletics (e.g., athlete, manager, graduate assistant, etc.) and had a national impact on athletics or exemplary athletic achievement during his/her subsequent career.
Thomas H. Ford, Jr. was recognized with the M Club Hy Popuch Memorial Service Award for his 25 years on the Marquette intercollegiate athletics staff where he developed and oversaw the academic support program. The program operated the Academic Support Center and offered programs designed to meet the academic needs of student-athletes.
The Hy Popuch Memorial Service Award honors an individual who has provided significant leadership and/or service to the M Club or the athletic department.
Grill was a key player in the growth of the men's lacrosse team, on which he was a three-time all-league performer and 2016 USILA All-American. He helped the team to a BIG EAST crown and the program's first NCAA appearance in 2016.
Pashibin served as team captain of the women's track and field team while maintaining excellence in the class room. She holds the all-time No. 3 mark for indoor high jump and led MU to its first-ever BIG EAST indoor and outdoor team titles during the 205-16 season.
The Robert L. and William P. McCahill Award is presented annually to the Marquette senior athlete from the previous year who has demonstrated the highest performance in scholarship, leadership and athletics.
