MILWAUKEE - Kylie Sprecher's first career goal was enough to lift the Marquette University women's soccer team over Central Michigan, 1-0, on Friday night in the Marquette Invitational at Valley Fields.
The Golden Eagles (4-1) have now won four straight matches since a season-opening setback to then-No. 2 Stanford on Aug. 18 and have not allowed an opponent to score in the last 291:55 of game play, dating back to Aug. 20 against Kentucky.
Sprecher's tally came in the 18th minute off a cross played from the left flank along the end line by Carrie Madden. Madden's cross was deflected by Darian Powell at the edge of the goal box back to Sprecher who struck from 10 yards out to put the Golden Eagles up 1-0.
Friday night marked the second start of Sprecher's career and her second career point, the first of which was an assist in MU's win over Kentucky.
The Chippewas held a 15-12 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage in saves as Maddy Henry recorded her sixth career clean sheet with two saves.
The Golden Eagles resume action in the Marquette Invitational on Sunday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m. against Mercer, which fell to Loyola-Chicago, 5-2, on Friday. CMU will face Loyola in Sunday's first match at 4:30 p.m.
