The Marquette University men's basketball team (0-0, 0-0 BIG EAST) opens its 102nd season of competition Tuesday night at Fiserv Forum when the program hosts UMBC (0-0, 0-0 America East) at 8 p.m. CT. FS1 will feature the national television broadcast, with Brian Anderson (play-by-play) and Stephen Bardo (analyst) calling the action. Following Tuesday night's matchup, the Golden Eagles will host Bethune Cookman on Saturday, Nov. 10 as part of the NIT Season Tip-Off.
MU Hoping To Continue Opening Success
Marquette has enjoyed a tremendous amount of success on opening night and hopes to continue that trend in 2018-19 when the team faces UMBC in the first game of the year.
The Golden Eagles are 85-16 (.842) all-time in campaign lidlifters and have claimed 25 of their last 27 overall. Marquette had an impressive streak of 29 years in which it started 1-0, dating from 1960-61 to 1988-89.

Marquette Hosts Retrievers For Fifth Time
Tuesday night's matchup, which was scheduled after the conclusion of the 2017-18 campaign, features a UMBC team that became the first No. 16 seed to defeat a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament.
The Retrievers downed Virginia on March 16, 2018 in the first round in Charlotte, N.C., snapping a 135-game losing skid by 16 seeds in previous tourneys. UMBC fell in the second round to another MU opponent in 2018-19, Kansas State.
The Golden Eagles are 4-0 all-time in matchups with UMBC, claiming a 79-46 win on Nov. 26, 2012 at the BMO Harris Bradley Center in the most recent matchup. Marquette is 14-1 all-time versus teams currently in the America East Conference, having faced Vermont in 2017-18.
2018-19 Features Aggressive Non-League Schedule
Head coach Steve Wojciechowski
builds his non-conference schedule to prepare the team for the rigors of BIG EAST play and 2018-19 is no exception.
In non-league play alone, the Golden Eagles will play at least six teams either currently ranked in the Associated Press Top-25 poll, including three in the top-15, or receiving votes. Kansas (1), Tennessee (6) and Kansas State (12) enter the campaign rated among the nation's best and Indiana, Wisconsin, Buffalo and Louisville are all just outside the top-25 along with Marquette.
Marquette faces top-ranked Kansas in the NIT Season Tip-Off on Nov. 21 and will take on either Louisville or Tennessee two nights later.
