NEW YORK - For the second-consecutive week, Marquette University has swept the BIG EAST Conference Field Athlete of the Week honors as sophomore Daniel Armstrong (high jump) and junior Julie Clayton (pole vault) were announced as winners by the league office on Tuesday.
It marks the second BIG EAST weekly award of the season and third of his career for Armstrong, while Clayton picks up her first career honor.
Armstrong set a lifetime-best on Saturday at Notre Dame, winning the high jump with the No. 2 mark in school history of 2.19 meters (7-2.25 feet). The Michigan City, Ind., native improved his BIG EAST-best mark and rose to 16th-nationally. He sits just a quarter-inch shy of the nation's top-12, which would secure him an automatic bid to NCAA indoor nationals.
Clayton had a banner day on Saturday as well, winning the pole vault at the Ranger Classic in Kenosha with a personal-best performance. Her height of 3.80 meters (12-5.5 feet) is No. 3 all-time at Marquette and elevated her to the top mark in the BIG EAST this season.
Marquette has dominated the weekly awards scene in field events so far this season, collecting five combined individual honors, including three-straight accolades on the women's side.
