The Marquette University men's tennis team (15-6) opened play at the 2018 BIG EAST Tournament Presented by Jeep with a 4-1 victory over Creighton in the quarterfinals on Friday afternoon at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center in Cayce, S.C.

The Golden Eagles, who have advanced to the championship match in each of the last three seasons, will face No. 2 seed St. John's at 11:30 a.m. CT on Saturday in the semifinals. The Red Storm defeated MU, 4-3, in New York, N.Y. on March 24.

Junior Alvaro Verdu and sophomore Brett Meyers earned a quick 6-2 win at No. 1 doubles, but the Bluejays were able to secure the point with victories at No. 2 and 3.

Fortunately for Marquette, the Golden Eagles were able to claim momentum right away in singles and straight-set wins by Verdu, Meyers, sophomore Brandon Shanklin and freshman Luis Heredia Gomez secured the win.
