I still have not fully come down from the emotional high of this past weekend. The team put together two tremendous performances over the weekend, defeating the University of Cincinnati and Louisville. We played a lot of volleyball, we played a lot of good volleyball. We showed a lot of character. In every way it was definitely one of the best "team" performances in which I have been associated. I am beaming ear to ear with pride for the effort, the belief, the preparation, and the togetherness. WE ARE A UNIFIED TEAM!
To add more emotion to the weekend, it was the last home volleyball weekend for our seniors. The staff made a small presentation at the pre-game meal on Sunday (we started a tradition) and we had a big presentation with fans and family after Sunday's match. The support for all of them was moving. Each of them has been through their own personal growth in their four seasons at Marquette in every way. Just in our nine months together I have watched them mature even more. They have worked hard?and there is more to come.
Congratulations to Chris Curtin who earned C-USA Player of the Week. What a great reward for both her and the entire team. I am big believer that recognized individual performances reflect on the team's work and belief in each other. There is no doubt that Chris played well - the team played well around her.
Our last regular season C-USA matches are this weekend. We travel to St. Louis and UNC-Charlotte. Playing well on the road is another step for us. We are great at home, okay on neutral sites, and can struggle at away sites. Good teams find a way to win regardless of where they are. To establish our tempo of play on the road is something we are focusing on as we finish the month on the road. It should be fun!
We are having a good time working hard. We are having a good time getting better. We are simply just having a good time.
