SPORTS PERFORMANCE

The mission of the Marquette University Sports Performance Staff is threefold:
- Reduce the incidence of injury
- Optimize athletic performance
- Instill habits of leadership, accountability and mental fortitude
This is achieved through the design and implementation of periodized year-round training programs that focus on developing a foundation of strength and sport-specific metabolic conditioning while also monitoring and managing physiological stressors that may lead to performance attenuation and injury. Training sessions are delivered in an environment that emphasizes the cultural goals of the program as determined by the coaches, captains, and leaders of each team.
PHILOSOPHYThe philosophy of the Marquette University Sports Performance staff centers around a multidisciplinary, principle-based approach emphasizing the development of physical characteristics that support the expression of elite sport movement skills. Periodic assessment of key performance indicators (KPIs) aids the staff in understanding the strengths and weaknesses of individual athletes, allowing further individualization of programming with the ultimate goal of improving athlete resiliency and sports performance.
The Marquette University Sports Performance staff has gained experience at the collegiate, private, academic and professional levels.Directed by Coach Todd Smith, the department comprises four assistant coaches alongside numerous trainee sports performance intern coaches. The staff is accredited by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and the Collegiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCa), the leading governing bodies for collegiate strength and conditioning professionals in the United States.
