Wrestling Splits Squad For Two Competitions Saturday

UP NEXT Marquette grapplers will be competing at two events this weekend, as head coach Jim Schmitz splits his squad for two non-team tournaments on Sat., Nov. 20. The starters in each weight class will be in Forest Park, Mo., for the St. Louis Open at 10 a.m. (CT). Included in the travel party for the St. Louis Open:
125 pounds - Dan Fell, Jr. (Skokie, Ill. / Niles North)
133 pounds - Nathan Challis, So. (Beech Grove, Ind. / Beech Grove)
141 pounds - Mark Bronsteatter, Jr. (Wausau, Wis. / West)
149 pounds - Brian Cobb, Fr. (San Jose, Calif. / Bellarmine)
157 pounds - Neil Posmer, Sr. (Algonquin, Ill. / Jacobs)
165 pounds - Peter Butville, Jr. (Levittown, Pa. / Nashiminy)
174 pounds - Mark Corsentino, Sr. (Peoria, Ill. / Notre Dame)
184 pounds - Brock Warder, So. (Sioux City, Iowa / West)
197 pounds - Mike Schneider, Sr. (Elk Grove, Ill. / Conant)
285 pounds - George Flannick, So. (Greendale, Wis. / Pius XI
The remainder of the Golden Eagles will be nearby at the Concordia Open in Mequon at 9:30 a.m.
LAST WEEK The Golden Eagles opened the 1999-2000 season at UW-Stevens Point?s Golden Eagle Open in Stevens Point, Wis., on Sat., Nov. 13. There were no team scores for either of the two divisions - Gold and Silver (freshmen) - but several individual Golden Eagles turned in impressive early-season performances.
In the Gold Division, Marquette captured three individual weight-class titles. Challis brought home the 125-pound award. Butville and Schneider, both ranked among the Preseason Top 25 in their respective weight classes, also both earned individual championships. Butville edged Wartburg?s Justin Holdgrafer at 165 pounds, while Schneider got past UW-Platteville?s Roy Forsyth for the title at 197 pounds.
Posmer finished second in the 157-pound weight classification.
In the Silver Division, freshman Andy Zychowicz (Perrysburg, Ohio / Perrysburg) took third place in the 141-pound weight class.
