CHICAGO - Conference USA today named Marquette women?s soccer player Mo Bothwell (Carmel, Ind. / Carmel) its Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 31. Despite making only three saves in a pair of victories last week, the junior earned the league award for the second time this season for her role in directing the Golden Eagles to back-to-back shutout victories this past weekend.
Bothwell played 65 minutes and made one save in Marquette?s 4-0 win over C-USA rival DePaul on Fri., Oct. 29. She then went the distance in the Golden Eagles? 1-0, regular-season-ending 1-0 victory over Purdue on Sun., Oct. 31. Bothwell?s point-blank save of a Boilermaker blast while at least 10 yards off her line with just minutes left in the first half kept the game knotted at 0-0 and may have preserved the victory for Marquette.
A two-time All-C-USA First Team selection, Bothwell is 11-6-2 this season, with a 1.11 goals against average, 73 saves and eight shutouts. She ranks among the league leaders in each of those categories.
Bothwell previously won the Defensive Player of the Week Award on Oct. 11.
