Last Time Out The Golden Eagles dropped a 72-68 overtime decision at Baylor on Dec. 11.
After falling behind 15-6 six minutes into the game, Marquette regrouped and used a 20-10 run over the next 12 minutes to post a 26-25 lead, its first of the game. The Golden Eagles built that lead to 30-25 with under a minute left and took a 30-28 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Brian Wardle took over on the offensive end of the floor and led Marquette?s comeback with 16 consecutive points, including two three-pointers in the final 11 seconds of regulation. His trey with three seconds left sent the game into overtime with the score knotted at 57-57. DeMarcus Minor, a teammate of Wardle?s on Marquette?s 1997-98 squad, scored the final six Baylor points in regulation.
Wardle started the overtime with another three-pointer and Cordell Henry sank a pair of free throws that gave Marquette two three-point leads early in the extra period. After a 63-63 tie, Baylor used a quick 5-0 spurt to pull away from the Golden Eagles, who would get no closer than three points the rest of the way.
Baylor shot 45.6% from the floor, including 42.9% from three-point range, and outrebounded Marquette 45-37. Baylor outrebounded Marquette 32-18 in the second half and overtime. The Bears are the first team this season to beat Marquette on the boards.

Junior Greg Clausen underwent surgery on Oct. 29, to repair a torn medial meniscus in his left knee. He missed both exhibition games, but has seen action in the first seven games of the season. He turned in his best performance of the campaign against Dayton (Dec. 7) with six points, on 3-4 shooting, and six rebounds.

Oh Yes They Call It A Streak Marquette has made at least one three-point field goal in 325 consecutive games. The last game without a trey was against Wake Forest on Feb. 2, 1989.
The streak has been in jeopardy in the last three games. The Golden Eagles have not hit a first-half trey in the last three contests.
Bench Production Marquette?s bench is averaging 14.4 points and 14.7 rebounds. The reserves shoot 38.5% from the field, 17.6% from three-point range, and 46.9% from the free throw line.
Marquette?s best scoring performance from its bench was in the season opener against Chicago State (Nov. 20) with 29 points. The reserves have pulled down a season-high 19 rebounds on two occasions - versus Chicago State (Nov. 20) and against Western Michigan (Dec. 3).
The Golden Eagle bench was held without a field goal at Baylor (Dec. 11). The Marquette reserves have not made a three-pointer in the last three games.
Is There a Pattern? In Marquette?s three losses, the opponents have shot better than 40% from the field and have each blocked five shots.
Taking Care of the Rock Over the past five games, the Golden Eagles have been taking better care of the ball. After committing a season-high 24 turnovers at Minnesota (Nov. 23), Marquette reduced its turnovers in the next five outings. Here?s the breakdown:
Nov. 27 Wofford 20
Dec. 3 Western Michigan 20
Dec. 4 Appalachian State 18
Dec. 7 Dayton 16
Dec. 11 Baylor (OT) 13
Protecting the Lead Marquette is 4-1 when leading at halftime. The Baylor game (Dec. 11) was the first time the Golden Eagles lost after holding the lead at the break.
Around the Block Marquette has not blocked a shot in the last two games. The Dec. 7 game against Dayton was the first time in 83 games that Marquette did not block a shot.
For Starters Marquette has used three different starting lineups this season.
The most common group of starters, used in four games, was Cordell Henry, John Cliff, Brian Wardle, Oluoma Nnamaka and John Mueller. John Polonowski moved into the starting lineup, replacing the injured Nnamaka, in each of the last two contests.

Marquette has not played in the Bradley Center since beating Appalachian State in the championship game of the Blue & Gold Coca-Cola Classic on Dec. 4, a span of 16 days.
Marquette in the Milwaukee Arena The Golden Eagles will play one more regular-season game in the Milwaukee Arena. Marquette hosts Coppin State at the Arena on Dec. 29.
The Arena served as Marquette?s home from 1950-51 to 1987-88. The Golden Eagles have played five games in the Arena since then and are 4-1 in those contests. The Dec. 7 loss to Dayton snapped Marquette?s four-game winning streak, which dated back to the 1994-95 season.
Defending the Three-Pointer This season, Marquette?s foes are shooting a mere 25.3% (24-95) from beyond the arc. Baylor hit 6 of 14 long-range shots for 42.9%, the best by a foe this season.
