Milwaukee, Wis. -
Marquette University womens basketball coach Terri Mitchell announced today the hiring of Kelly Johnson to fill the newly-created position of special assistant for the Golden Eagles. As special assistant, Johnson will take care of the teams travel arrangements, coordinate tape exchanges, keep in-game statistics, and perform various administrative duties, as well as assisting with the summer camp program and office operations.
"Kelly impressed us with her enthusiasm and willingness to learn, and were looking forward to having her join our program," Mitchell said. "She brings a strong knowledge of the game and refined organizational skills that will compliment what we already have in place here at Marquette."
Before coming to Marquette, Johnson served as an administrative assistant in the Ripon College athletic department. She also served as an administrative assistant at Dunhill Staffing Systems of Milwaukee and as an intern with Alderwoman Suzanne Breier of the Milwaukee Common Council.
A member of both the Ripon basketball and softball teams for four years, Johnson was an all-conference first-team performer in softball and was winner of the basketball teams Desire, Dedication and Determination Award in 1998. She was a four-year recipient of Ripons Distinguished Honor Scholarship and belonged to both Athletes Against Substance Abuse and the Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society.
The Milwaukee native double-majored in history and politics and government at Ripon. She received a bachelors of arts degree this past May.
"Its an excellent time to be a part of this program," Johnson said. "Terri and the staff have given me the opportunity to come into a great situation and learn as I go. Im excited to get started and am more than ready for the season to roll around."
Johnson joins assistant coaches Tracey Tarkington, Jon Cain and Michelle Nason on Mitchells staff.
