Vesna Grbavac Named MVP Of Marquette Challenge

Milwaukee - Sophomore Vesna Grbavac was named the MVP of the 1999 Marquette Challenge, which the Golden Eagles won this weekend with a 3-0 record. She was joined by classmate Mehgan Devine on the all-tournament team.
Grbavac averaged 4.00 kills and 2.82 digs and hit .259 in Marquette's three victories. She posted a weekend-high 19 kills in Marquette's thrilling 3-2 win over Providence in opening-round action. In Saturday's first match against Bowling Green, she hit .538 and had a match-best 16 kills, the only player to reach double digits in kills. Grbavac tied her weekend high with 14 digs in the Marquette win over Mississippi State.
Devine averaged 2.22 kills and 1.89 blocks a game and hit .341 in the three weekend matches. She hit .400 and had five block assists against Providence Friday evening. She tallied eight kills and six block assists versus Bowling Green saturday afternoon. Against Mississippi State, she had a match-best six block assists.
