Women's Cross Country Prepares For Roy Griak Invitational

UP NEXT Dave Uhrich?s Marquette women?s cross country team has this weekend off as it prepares for its next meet, the University of Minnesota?s Roy Griak Invitational on Sept. 25, in Minneapolis, Minn.
LAST WEEK The Golden Eagles flew out of the blocks on Sat., Sept. 11, winning their first meet of the season, the Valparaiso Crusader Open in Valaparaiso, Ind. Marquette soared to the title with 21 points, upsetting #23 Notre Dame in the process. The Fighting Irish, who held out their top two runners to prepare for future meets, finished second with 40 points, while Augustana was a distant third with 98 points.
Redshirt freshman Jessie Swan (West Allis, Wis. / Central) led seven Golden Eagles among the top ten finishers, taking second place in a time of 18:05. Juniors Erika Jacobson (Sister Bay, Wis. / Gibralter) and Sarah McCullough (Naperville, Ill. / Benet Academy) finished third and fifth, respectively, while freshman Susan Barth (Bluffton, Ind. / Bluffton) had a strong debut in a Golden Eagle uniform, finishing fourth with a time of 18:07. Jacki Swan (West Allis, Wis. / Central), Anne Schneider (Brookfield, Wis. / Central) and Lezlye Moran (Milwaukee, Wis. / Wauwatosa East) rounded out the Golden Eagles in the top ten.
Besides Barth, several other newcomers saw their first action for Marquette. Redshirt freshman Natalie McClure (Edgerton, Wis. / Argo [Ill.]) completed the race in 19:43, good for 22nd place, while freshman Amanda Sucharda (Racine, Wis. / St. Catherine?s) finished 41st with a time of 20:40.
