UP NEXT After a week?s layoff following a season-opening victory at the Valparaiso Crusader Invitational, Dave Uhrich?s Marquette women?s cross country team heads north this weekend for the University of Minnesota?s Roy Griak Invitational on Sat., Sept. 25. With over 210 teams and 2,000 runners competing in six races, the Griak is one of the country?s largest cross country invitationals. The Division I women?s ?Gold Race?, featuring 28 teams, is scheduled to start at noon (CT). The 5K course is being run on the University of Minnesota?s Les Bolstad Course in Falcon Heights.
Providence, the 1998 team champion, will be back to defend its title this season. The Friars have won the team championship in three of the last four years. Also returning is defending individual champion Rasa Michniovaite of Minnesota. Michniovaite became the first Gopher in the event?s 13-year history a year ago when she took top honors with a time of 17:08. The race record of 16:19 was set in 1989 by Villanova?s Vicki Huber.
