Brian Wardle Named C-USA Co-Player Of The Week

Milwaukee, WI -- Marquette junior Brian Wardle (Clarendon Hills, Ill.) has been named Conference USA's Co-Men's Basketball Player of the Week for his efforts in helping the Golden Eagles to wins over DePaul and Louisville. Wardle shares the honor with UNC Charlotte forward Tremaine Gardiner.
The 6-foot-5 Wardle tallied 18 points (second high on the team) and doled out a career-best seven assists last Wednesday (Jan. 12) in helping Marquette top No. 21-ranked DePaul on the road, 69-60. Against the 25th-ranked Cardinals of Louisville, Wardle came up with a team-high 17 points, seven rebounds and four assists in aiding in a 66-64 overtime win. Wardle's point production against Louisville marked his 10th straight contest of double-figure scoring.
At the start of the week Wardle stands first on the team and eighth in the league in scoring with a 16.3 points per game average. Wardle also ranks eighth among conference performers in field goal percentage (.489) and 13th in free throw percentage (.727).
Marquette is 10-5 in overall action and 3-1 in C-USA play. The Golden Eagles, tied with DePaul for second place in the American Division, will host UNC Charlotte at the Bradley Center on Wednesday, Jan. 19, starting at 7:00 p.m.
