MILWAUKEE - The regular season champion of Conference USA, Marquette looks to add a conference tournament championship to its regular year crown. The Golden Eagles play their quarterfinal round match in the C-USA Tournament on Nov. 1 against eighth seeded South Florida. The match is scheduled for noon at the Robert R. Hermann Stadium on the campus of Saint Louis University.
Marquette, the defending C-USA Tournament champions, rides a five-match unbeaten string into the tournament and is 12-1-1 in its last 14 contests. The Golden Eagles are 16-2-1 on the year. Leading the offensive charge for Marquette is sophomore Kate Gordon (Sioux City, Iowa). Gordon scored two goals and had an assist in Marquette's last outing. She has 11 goals and six assists on the year. In goal, senior Mo Bothwell (Carmel, Ind.) is Marquette's all-time saves leader and has taken part in eight of Marquette's nine shutouts on the year.
South Florida had a two-match winning streak halted by Charlotte in its final regular season matchup. The loss to the 49ers secured the eighth seed for South Florida, who enters the tournament with a 6-9-1 overall record and a 4-6-1 conference record.
Senior Siri Nordby is the Bulls' most dangerous player. The Conference USA Preseason Player of the Year has 11 goals and 25 points on the year, firing 73 shots on the season.
Marquette and South Florida played on Sept. 29, with the Golden Eagles coming away victorious, 2-0. Anne Ioder (Hartland, Wis.) and Ashley Spakowitz (Hartland, Wis.) each scored goals and the defense put the clamps on Nordby for the MU win. Marquette allowed only six shots in the match.
"We have enough players who know what it takes to win a conference tournament," head coach Markus Roeders said. "With South Florida, we don't expect an easy game. They gave us a difficult time earlier in the season. We have to come out ready to play."
The winner of the Marquette/South Florida match will take on the winner of the Charlotte/Southern Miss match on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m.
