Both teams had several chances to score goals during the regulation period, but neither team could seem to find the back of the net. Marquette held the shooting edge over Cincinnati, 11-8. "We played our hearts out tonight, said Cincinnati head coach Meridy Glenn. "We had an uphill battle and tonight it just did not go our way."
Marquette's Kate Gordon continued her tremendous tournament play by scoring her third game-winning goal at the 106:22 mark on an assist from Carolyn Klopp. Gordon scored five goals for the weekend and was named the tournament's most valuable forward. "Kate had a great weekend, said Coach of the Year Markus Roeders. "She had five goals and three game-winners, you can always count on her for a goal if you need one."
Mo Bothwell posted her seventh shutout of the season with three saves for the match. Christy Hoffman had five saves for the Bearcats and was named the tournament's most valuable goalkeeper. Kristen Jensen received most valuable midfielder for Marquette, while Heather O'Neil was named most valuable defender.
Cincinnati ends its season at 15-6-0 overall. Marquette improves to 19-2-1 overall. The NCAA selection show is set for Sunday, Nov. 5 at 9 p.m.
