MILWAUKEE (AP) - Dusty Rychart scored the first six points of overtime, leading Minnesota to a 61-59 victory over Marquette Thursday night.
The Golden Gophers (7-1) shot just 35 percent from the field in regulation but made their first four tries in overtime to pull away.
Rychart got his shots by working down low, and then Jeff Bauer made a 3-pointer from the right wing to give Minnesota a 61-54 lead with 1:46 to go in the overtime.
Marquette (3-2) charged back on a 3-pointer by Odartey Blankson and a tip-in by Jon Harris, slicing the deficit to 61-59 with 40.4 seconds to go.
The Golden Eagles got one final chance when Rychart missed a long 3-pointer as the shot clock was running out, but Cordell Henry's halfcourt shot at the buzzer missed.
Rychart finished with 15 points and Bauer 14 for Minnesota.
Brian Wardle led the Golden Eagles with 15 points.
Minnesota scored just two points over a six-minute stretch late in the first half, as Marquette built a lead as large as 24-14.
But when Shane Schilling hit a 3-pointer with just a few seconds left in the half the Golden Gophers trailed only 25-21 at halftime.
Henry made two free throws with 34.3 seconds left to force the overtime.
