CHICAGO - Conference USA today named Marquette women's basketball player Lisa Oldenburg (West Allis, Wis. / Hale) as its women's basketball Player of the Week. It is the second time this season that the senior has garnered the league award, and it also is the second time in as many weeks that a Marquette player has earned the award. Oldenburg's classmate, Abbie Willenborg, took the recognition last week.
Last week, Oldenburg led the Golden Eagles to a pair of key road victories over C-USA National Division foes. She went 12-16 from the field for 27 points and also had seven rebounds and four steals in Marquette's 95 86 victory at Southern Miss on Thu., Feb. 3. Oldenburg followed that by leading all scorers with 17 points in the Golden Eagles' 81-62 upset of nationally-ranked Tulane on Sat., Feb. 5. She also had seven boards, a block and a steal in the victory, which was seen by a national television audience on espn2.
A two-time All-C-USA Second Team selection, Oldenburg has once again reestablished herself as one of C USA's most versatile players. She paces Marquette with averages of 17.0 points, 1.7 blocks and 2.3 steals per game and a 57% field goal percentage, which also ranks her among the top 20 players nationally. Additionally, the 6-2 forward is the only player in C-USA to rank among the top 15 players in the following diverse statistical categories: scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, steals and blocks.
Oldenburg is leaving her mark on the Marquette record books, having etched her spot on several career statistical lists. She is first all-time with a 54% (604-1117) field goal percentage. Oldenburg is currently fourth on Marquette's all-time career scoring Top 10 with 1,599 points and is sixth on the all-time career rebounding list with 778 boards. She also ranks fourth with 133 blocked shots, third with 335 made free throws and fourth with 456 free throw attempts. Additionally, she is tied for sixth on Marquette's games played list, with 111. Included in that figure are 80 consecutive starts.
Oldenburg and the Golden Eagles conclude a grueling, four-game road swing with a pair of games against C USA American Division rivals this weekend. Cincinnati hosts Marquette on Fri., Jan. 11, at 6:30 p.m. (CT). The Golden Eagles then battle Louisville on Sun., Feb. 13, at 1 p.m. The latter game with the Lady Cardinals can be heard live from Freedom Hall on WJYI-1340 AM.
