MILWAUKEE - Marquette University senior Lisa Oldenburg (West Allis, Wis. / Hale) was named to the 1999-2000 GTE Academic All-America Women's Basketball University Division Third Team earlier this week. The senior captain earned the honor after being named to the Academic All-District V First Team last month.
"It's nice to be recognized for the academic side, because I work just as hard in the classroom as I do on the court," Oldenburg said. "It's also an honor to be included in a group that includes such a talented number of players. I respect the fact that several of these players are also All-Americans or All-Conference performers on the court. That lets people know that we are, in fact, student-athletes."
While majoring in both English and physical therapy, Oldenburg carries a 3.60 grade point average. She is a three-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Academic Honor Roll. A 6-2 senior forward, Oldenburg is one of only two players to have started all 29 games for Marquette this season. She led Marquette with 16.2 points, 1.7 blocks and 2.0 steals per game, and a 56% field goal percentage. Oldenburg also sported impressive averages of 7.1 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game, and converted 73% of her free throw attempts. She was the only player in C-USA to rank among the Top 15 in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, steals and blocks. She was named to the All-C-USA Second Team for the third consecutive year following the season.
Oldenburg finished her career ranked on 11 of Marquette's All-Time career Top 10s. She is the program's all-time leader in field goal percentage, having shot 54% from the field over her four seasons. Oldenburg is fourth on the career scoring chart with 1,655 points, sixth on the career rebounding chart with 832 and third in each of the following categories: free throws made (363), free throws attempted (494), blocks (148) and games played (118).
Oldenburg and the Golden Eagles concluded a highlight-filled 1999-2000 season with a record of 22-7. Marquette garnered its first-ever national rankings during the season, and also claimed its first-ever outright C USA regular-season championship. The Golden Eagles advanced to their record fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament following their record fourth straight season of 20+ victories.
