MILWAUKEE -
UP NEXT Head coach Tim Grogan's Marquette golf team has a little over a week off before returning to action this coming Mon.-Tue., April 3-4, in Saint Louis' Billiken Invitational. The three-round event will be held on the Gateway National Golf Course in Madison, Ill.
LAST WEEK Marquette turned in a strong showing with a second place finish at Butler's Spring Invitational in Cicero, Ind., on March 25-26. The Golden Eagles claimed their lofty finish with consistent back-to-back rounds of 300 and 302 (602), finishing two shots off the lead at Bear Slide Golf Course. IUPUI captured the team title with a two-round score of 600 (291-309).
Brad White (Lake Geneva, Wis. / Badger) continued his solid spring with a fifth-place finish. The sophomore paced the Golden Eagles with 149 (76-73), which was seven over par. Senior captain Tim Jacobs (McHenry, Ill. / McHenry) and junior Mark Wentz (DeForest, Wis. / DeForest) finished one shot behind White with scores of 150, which tied them for ninth. Jacobs shot a Marquette-low 72 during the event's first day. Marc Fisher (Pierrefonds, Quebec, Canada / Notre Dame) and Edvins Erkmanis (Franklin, Wis. / Martin Luther) rounded out the Marquette finishers, with scores of 154 and 156, respectively.
IUPUI's Brad Baker shot an even-par 142 to earn individual honors.
