MILWAUKEE -
UP NEXT Head coach Tim Grogan's Marquette golf squad spends its Spring Break this week like thousands of other college students: in sunny Florida. However, it won't all be fun in the sun for the Golden Eagles, who will put in a busy week of practice in and around Palm Coast, Fla. Starting this past Sat., March 4, and extending through to Sat., March 11, the Marquette linksters will get in several practice rounds on some of the top courses in the Palm Coast area, including Cypress Knoll, Mantanzas Woods, Pine Lakes and the LPGA Champions' Course.
The Golden Eagles get back into intercollegiate competition next weekend at Western Kentucky's Kauai Collegiate Cup in Princeville, Hawaii.
LAST WEEK Marquette struggled in its Spring season-opener on Feb. 25-27, finishing 18th at the South Florida / Ron Smith Invitational. The Golden Eagles shot 934 (311-318-305) over the three-day event at USF's course, also known as "The Claw". Leading from the first round, Florida Southern captured the team title with an 863.
Sophomore Brad White (Lake Geneva, Wis. / Badger) led the Golden Eagles with a three-round score of 230 (78-77-75), good for a tie for 60th in the field of 90. Mark Wentz (DeForest, Wis. / DeForest), who led Marquette with 36 pars, finished tied for 67th with a score of 233. Junior Marc Fisher (Pierrefonds, Quebec / Notre-Dame) shot a Marquette low-round of 74 during the final round.
