Akron, Ohio -
The Marquette Golf Team concluded its season with a disappointing finish at the First Energy Intercollegiate, hosted by Akron University. The Golden Eagles shot a three-round total of 946 (323-314-307) at the Firestone Country Club North Course, landing them at the back of the pack.
Ohio State claimed the team title, shooting a blistering 869 (282-291-296). The Buckeyes were led by individual champion David Waganseller, who shot an opening round 68 (four-under) en route to a three-round total of 214. Waganseller highlighted the Ohio State showing, which included four top-15 finishes.
Marquette, however, never found its stride on the par-72 layout. The Golden Eagles were led by Junior Mark Wentz, who shot a three-round total of 226 (74-76-76). That was good for a tie for 27th place in the talented field. Tim Jacobs chipped in a 64th place finish, firing a 233 (84-74-75).
The Golden Eagles finished 20th out of 20 teams at the First Energy Intercollegiate, capping a busy week that also saw the team post a twelfth place finish at the Conference USA Championships, in Navarre, Fla.
