Women's Basketball Hands Out Postseason Awards

Milwaukee - The Marquette women's basketball team announced its postseason team awards at MU's annual All-Sports Banquet this evening. Senior Lisa Oldenburg was named the team's Most Valuable Player. Classmates Kiesha Oliver and Abbie Willenborg were the recipients of the Character Award and Outstanding Offensive Performer Award, respectively. Sophomore Point guard Kristi Johnson earned the Golden Eagles' Outstanding Defenisve Performer Award.
Oldenburg was the only player in Conference USA to finish in the Top 15 in scoring, rebounding, field goal percentage, free throw percentage, steals and blocks. She paced Marquette with a 56% field goal percentage and averages 16.2 points, 1.7 blocks and 2.0 steals per game. She was named to the All-C-USA Second Team for the third consecutive year following the season.
Oliver earned her first-ever league postseason award when she was named to the All-C-USA Third Team following the regular season. The 5-9 shooting guard averaged 10.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.7 assists per game to go along with a 70% free throw percentage.
Willenborg, who was a fourth-round pick of the WNBA's Houston Comets earlier this week, concluded her career as Marquette's all-time leader in points and rebounds. She average 16.1 points and 9.2 rebounds per game this past season, and also set new career highs in assists, blocks and steals.
A sophomore who has started every game in her two-year career, Johnson spearheaded the Marquette defense from her point guard spot. She averaged 7.6 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.0 assists while shooting 34% from three-point range and 75% from the line.
