MILWAUKEE - Marquette cross country and track and field coach Dave Uhrich announced today that six recruits have signed national letters of intent to attend the University and compete for the Golden Eagles starting in the Fall of 2000. New to the Marquette women's roster are cross country and track athletes Brianna Dahm (Two Rivers, Wis. / Two Rivers) and Jamie Haro (Brookfield, Wis. / Catholic Memorial), and sprinter Julianna Wesolowski (Franklin, Wis. / Franklin). The men's class of 2004 features Bo Erickson (Two Rivers, Wis. / Two Rivers), Ryan Jacobson (Sister Bay, Wis. / Gibraltar) and Kyle Schreiner (Cincinnati, Ohio / St. Xavier), each of whom will compete for both the cross country and track teams.
"We have significantly improved our rosters with the addition of each of the six of these student-athletes," Uhrich said. "All of them can make an immediate impact throughout their freshman seasons."
The consistent Dahm led her Two Rivers squad to the 2000 Wisconsin Division II Championship by tallying 19 team points, earning second place in the 3200 meters, third in the 1600 meters and fourth in the 800 meters. In 1999, she was the state runner-up in both the 1600 meters and the cross country championship. She also was the runner-up in the 800 meters in 1998. Dahm has personal-best times of 2:16 (800m), 5:03 (1600m) and 10:54 (3200m).
Haro is a versatile performer who has excelled at a variety of competitions during her prep career. She defended her 1999 400-meter title at this year's Wisconsin Private Schools Division I State Championship, where she also earned first place in the 800 meters and second place in both the high jump and the 4x400 relay. Her 30 points helped Catholic Memorial capture the team title at the state championship. Haro was also the 1999 state cross country champion and was part of the 4x400 relay championship team that same year. She has personal bests of 57.65 in the 400, 2:16 in the 800 and 5'2" in the high jump.
Sprinter Wesolowski has personal bests of 25.8 seconds in the 200 meters and 58.03 seconds in the 400 meters. She led her 4x400 relay team to the 2000 state championship and was seventh in the 400 meters. Wesolowski took fourth in the 400 in 1999.
The men's recruits "keep it in the family", so to speak, as both Erickson and Jacobson continue family legacies at Marquette. Erickson is the brother of former Marquette All-American Amy Erickson, while Jacobson is the brother of current Marquette captain Erika Jacobson.
Bo Erickson was a member of the Two Rivers 4x800 relay team that took the 2000 state title and established a state record in the process. Individually, he followed his 3200-meter title in 1999 by finishing third in both the 1600 meters and the 3200 meters at this year's Division II State Championship. Erickson has run 1:56.8 in the 800, 4:21 in the 1600 and 9:36 in the 3200 for personal bests.
Ryan Jacobson hit the trifecta at this year's Division III State Championship, earning state titles in the 400 meters, in which he also established a state record, the 800 meters, which he also won in 1999, and the 1600 meters. Those titles followed his 1999 state championship in cross country. He also was a member of the Gibraltar 4x800 relay team that captured the 1999 state title. Jacobson's personal bests include a 48.84 400, 1:56 in the 800 and 4:23 in the 1600.
Schreiner led his St. Xavier 4x800 relay team to this year's Ohio State Championship. He took third place at the championship in the 800 meters, an event in which he has recorded a personal best of 1:52.97
