MILWAUKEE -- Brian Wardle, a senior-to-be on the 2000-01 Marquette University men's basketball squad, has been selected as a member of the 2000 NIT All-Star Team. The group of all-stars will play a series of games against various European squads during the middle of August.
Wardle was a Second-Team All-C-USA honoree last season after leading the team and ranking ninth among league scorers with a 16.6 points per game average. The 6-foot-5 Wardle, the lone C-USA representative on the All-Star Team, also stood eighth in the conference in field goal percentage (.445), fourth in free throw percentage (.783) and fourth in three-point field goal percentage (.400, 50-of-125). He was the team's leading scorer in 14 contests and scored in double figures in 23 of the Golden Eagles' 29 outings. Entering the upcoming season, Wardle has totaled 1,146 points in his career and stands 25th on the school's all-time scoring list.
The team will practice at Manhattan College in Riverdale, New York, from Wednesday, August 9, through Sunday, August 13. The squad then departs for Milan, Italy on the 13th and will return on August 25.
"It's certainly a nice honor for Brian to be chosen to this team," said Marquette Head Coach Tom Crean. "It will give him a chance to compete against international competition while also allowing him the opportunity to further enhance his game. I'm sure that he will be an excellent representative for Marquette University and the basketball program."
