Milwaukee -- Hoping to advance itself in the C-USA standings, the Marquette women's soccer team hosts the University of Louisville on Friday (Sept. 15). Game time at the Valley Fields is slated for 6:00 p.m., and will precede the Marquette-Cal Poly men's contest. Friday's match up against the Cardinals is the first of a weekend home series for the Golden Eagles. On Sunday (Sept. 17), MU hosts Cincinnati at 1:00 p.m., in another conference showdown.
Marquette, ranked No. 6 in this week's Great Lakes Region Poll, heads into the Friday contest with an overall record of 4-1 (1-0 in C-USA). Last weekend, the Golden Eagles participated in the NIKE UAB Classic where it topped UAB, 1-0, on Friday (Sept. 8) before dropping a 3-1 decision to Auburn on Sunday. Junior Jill Vendetti's (Franklin, Mass.) goal late in the first half, her second of the year, was the lone marker of the UAB game. In the Auburn contest, the Golden Eagles fell behind by a 3-0 margin before sophomore Kate Gordon (Sioux City, Iowa) got MU on the board with her second tally of the campaign. Marquette had three players earn all-tournament honors, senior Rhegan Hyypio (St. Petersburg, Fla.), senior Heather O'Neil (Shoreview, Minn.) and Vendetti.
After a season-opening win, Louisville comes to town with an overall slate of 1-5. The Cardinals have been held scoreless in their last three games and are coming off a 2-0 loss at home to Butler last Sunday. Junior forward Amber Jolley ranks as the team's leading scorer with eight points on three goals and two assists.
Marquette holds a 4-3 lead in the all-time series against the Cardinals and captured a 4-1 win last year at Louisville.
