Milwaukee - The Marquette women's soccer team raised its record to 4-0 this evening with a hard-fought 1-0 win at UAB in the second game of the NIKE UAB Classic.
The Golden Eagles, ranked 23rd in the country, accounted for the game's lone marker at 38:30 when junior Jill Vendetti (Franklin, Mass.) scored her second goal of the year off a rebound. Assisting on the game-deciding tally were Stephanie Welch and Rhegan Hyypio.
"We are certainly happy to get a conference win in a tough place to play," said MU Head Coach Markus Roeders. "Defensively, we played as well as we have all year. Towards the end, they really tried to pressure us with four forwards, but we handled it well and actually generated a couple of good chances off it."
Next up for Marquette in the NIKE UAB Classic is a Sunday match up against Auburn (4-1), winners over UTEP, 4-2, on Friday evening.
