Marquette Volleyball Faces C-USA Road Tests

MATCH INFO - The Marquette University volleyball team takes to the road this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 19-20) for a pair of C-USA matches. On Friday, the Golden Eagles battle the Green Wave of Tulane before closing out the weekend with a contest at Southern Miss on Saturday evening. Fogelman Arena on the Tulane campus will be the site of the eighth meeting between the schools and the match will begin at 7:00 p.m. Reed Green Coliseum on the Southern Miss campus will be the setting for the eighth match between the schools and that will also start at 7:00 p.m.
THE COACHES - Marquette is directed by third-year head coach Laura Farina (Illinois, '92) who owns a school and career record of 38-43. She is 2-0 all-time vs. both Tulane and Southern Miss. Tulane is coached by Betsy Becker who is in her third year at the helm of the Green Wave program. During her stint at Tulane, Becker has a school mark of 43-41, 121-99 in seven campaigns as a head coach. Santiago Restrepo is in his first year as the head coach at Southern Miss. Prior to his current post, he was the head coach at East Stroudsburg for three years where he compiled a record of 75-32.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette enters the Tulane match with an overall record of 11-7 (4-3 C-USA). The Golden Eagles have won six of their last seven matches and are coming off a four-game win at home vs. Wisconsin-Green Bay on Tuesday. Tulane hosts Marquette with a 13-7 overall slate including a 5-3 effort in the league. The Green Wave snapped a two-match losing streak on Tuesday when it claimed a four-game victory over the University of New Orleans. Southern Miss heads into a Friday night affair with DePaul aiming to end a four-match losing streak that has dropped its record to 7-11 overall, 2-6 in C-USA.
SERIES NOTES - Marquette posts an all-time record of 4-3 against Tulane. The Golden Eagles have won the last two meetings including a 3-0 decision in Milwaukee last year. Southern Miss posts a 5-2 record against Marquette, however MU has won the last two encounters including a 3-0 decision last year in Milwaukee.
ON THE HORIZON -- Following this weekend's action, Marquette enjoys a three-match homestand starting next Tuesday, Oct. 23, when it entertains Loyola-Chicago starting at 7:00 p.m. at the MU Gym.
MU PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES -- Freshman Jennifer Amobi hit a team-high 30.3 percent (14-4--33) in the win over UW-Green Bay ... The Golden Eagles had six players finish with double digits in digs in the UW-Green Bay contest, the first time this season that had happened ... Senior Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) stands third among C-USA players in attack percentage (.320) ... She has made the most of her attack attempts over the last four matches, recording a 36.1 hitting percentage (58-15--119) in that stretch ... Devine has three straight outings of double-doubles (kills/digs) ... Senior Vesna Grbavac (Palatine, Ill.) has four straight matches of double-figure kills and 15 on the year ... Grbavac's 4.09 kills per game ranks her seventh in the league ... Marquette's 12 service aces in the UW-Green Bay match marked the seventh time this season that the Golden Eagles had 10 or more aces in a match ... The Golden Eagles are 6-1 when registering 10 or more aces ... Freshman Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) has three straight matches of double-figure kills ... Sophomore Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) is fourth in C-USA in assists (12.71 apg).
