Marquette Volleyball Hosts Loyola On Tuesday

MATCH INFO - The Marquette University volleyball team begins what it hopes will be a productive three-match home stand on Tuesday (Oct. 23) when it hosts Loyola. The MU Gym will be the site of the 20th meeting between the Golden Eagles and the Ramblers and start time is 7:00 p.m.
THE COACHES - Marquette is directed by third-year head coach Laura Farina (Illinois, '92) who owns a school and career record of 39-44. She is 0-1 vs. Loyola.
Loyola is coached by Liz Nelson (Wisconsin, '92) who is in her fifth year at the helm of the program. During her stint at Loyola, Nelson has compiled a school and career mark of 96-54.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette hosts Loyola with an overall record of 12-8. The Golden Eagles have won seven of their last nine matches and is coming off a split of a C-USA road trip this past weekend. The Golden Eagles dropped a four-game decision to Tulane on Friday before bouncing back to claim a four-game win against Southern Miss on Saturday. Marquette stands 7-2 in home matches this season.
Loyola comes to town with an overall slate of 12-7. The Ramblers ended a two-match losing streak on Saturday when it topped UW-Green Bay in four games.
SERIES NOTES - Loyola posts an all-time record of 13-6 against Marquette. Last season, the Ramblers claimed a four-game triumph in Chicago.
ON THE HORIZON -- Following Tuesday's action, Marquette takes on C-USA foes Memphis and Saint Louis. MU hosts the Tigers of Memphis on Friday evening starting at 7:00 p.m., before battling Saint Louis on Saturday starting at 6:00 p.m. Both matches will be played at the MU Gym.
GRBAVAC AND DEVINE REACH 1,000 CAREER KILLS -- Seniors Vesna Grbavac (Palatine, Ill.) and Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) each recorded their 1,000th career kill on Saturday at Southern Miss. Grbavac finished the USM outing with 23 successful attacks, boosting her career total to 1,008, while Devine's 15 kills increased her mark to 1,001. Grbavac and Devine hold down the fifth and sixth positions, respectively, on the school's all-time kills chart.
MU PLAYER AND TEAM NOTES -- Mehgan Devine has hit 30 percent or better in five of the team's last six matches and has manufactured a 35.7 attack percentage (84-24--168) in that stretch ... In addition, Devine has five consecutive matches of double-doubles and seven during the year ... Grbavac's 23 kills vs. Southern Miss marked her sixth match of 20 or more kills this year and tied the second-highest mark by a Marquette player this season ... At the start of the week, Grbavac is seventh among C-USA players in attacks (4.20 kpg) ... Sophomore Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) has 923 assists and stands eighth on the school's seasonal list ... Greer holds down the No. 3 spot among C-USA players in assists (13.0 apg) ... Freshman Jennifer Amobi's 16 kills vs. Southern Miss marked her fifth straight outing of 10 or more kills and 13th of the campaign ... Freshman Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) registered back-to-back season-high tying 17 digs in the matches vs. Tulane and Southern Miss ... Sophomore Megan Markowski (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) came up with a season-high 16 digs vs. Tulane ... Freshman Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) takes a five-match streak of double-figure kills into the Loyola contest ... As a team, Marquette is hitting 23.0 percent (1170-477--3016) which places it sixth among C-USA squads.
