BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - Freshman Nathan Colson fired a 74 in the final round of the John Piper Intercollegiate to finish the event in fifth place. Colson's 74 was tied for the fourth best score of the day.
Colson combined his 74 with a 69 in the first round and a 76 in the second round to finish at three-over, 219. He was six shots behind leader John Schones of Wright State who fired a 213. One other golfer, Ryan Harmon of Youngstown State, finished under par at two-under, 214.
Colson's finish paced Marquette to an 11th place team finish. The Golden Eagles shot 317 as a team in the final round to finish at71-over, 935. Bowling Green led the team event with an 18-over 882.
Matt Hilton finished 33rd for Marquette with a 229. He fired an 80 in the first and third round, sandwiched by a 69 in the second round. Jason Gaare placed 44th with a 19-over 235 after shooting a final round 80. Mike Everson finished the tournament with a 252, placing 59th. Justin Christensen finished the tournament in 60th place with a 260.
The John Piper Intercollegiate was Marquette's final event of the fall season. The team returns to action in February with the Ron Smith/USF Invitational.
