MADISON, Wis. - The Marquette women's soccer team downed Wisconsin, 2-0, on Sunday. With the win, Marquette improves to 12-4 overall. Wisconsin falls to 4-10-3.
Marquette won the contest with both of its goals in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Anne Ioder (Hartland, Wis.) scored the first goal of the afternoon in the 65th minute on an unassisted effort. Sophomore midfielder Kristen Jensen (Shorwood, Ill.) scored in the 78th minute on a penalty kick after a Marquette player was taken down in the penalty area by WIsconsin's Allie Bogosheske.
Both teams played an uneventful first half. Wisconsin did little damage with its eight shots. None were on goal. Marquette did even less damage in the first half before unleashing in the second half. MU fired just one shot in the first half.
Wisconsin used a two keeper rotation. Jodi Zilinski did not need to make a save in the first half. Kelly Conway was responsible for giving up both MU goals, while making one save. Marquette keeper Ashleigh Koenig (Naperville, Ill.) made all four of her saves in the second half.
Marquette returns to action on Thursday, Nov. 1 with a 2 p.m. contest at Wis.-Milwaukee at Englemann Field.
