Marquette Volleyball Faces Road Test at DePaul

MATCH INFO - The Marquette University volleyball team hopes to continue its hot streak this Wednesday (Oct. 31) when it plays at DePaul. The DePaul Athletic Center will serve as the site of 28th meeting between the Golden Eagles and Blue Demons and start time is 7:00 p.m.
THE COACHES - Marquette is directed by third-year head coach Laura Farina (Illinois, '92) who owns a school and career record of 42-44.
DePaul is coached by Dawn Dockstader (Montana Tech, '88) who is in her fifth year at the helm of the program. During her stint at DePaul, Dockstader has compiled a school and career mark of 77-75.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette enters play Wednesday evening with an overall record of 15-8, 7-4 in C-USA. The Golden Eagles have won the last four and 10 of their last 12 matches and are coming off a succesful weekend, defeating Memphis in three games on Friday and Saint Louis in four games on Saturday. The two wins at the MU Gym boosted the Golden Eagles home winning streak to seven games.
DePaul hosts Marquette with an overall slate of 17-6 including an 8-3 effort in C-USA action. The Blue Demons, 8-4 in home matches this year, split a pair of league contests last weekend, dropping a four-game verdict to Saint Louis before bouncing back to post a four-game win over Memphis.
SERIES NOTES - DePaul posts an all-time record of 27-10 against Marquette. The Blue Demons have claimed the last four meetings between the schools including a five-game decision earlier this year (Sept. 22). Three of the last five meetings have gone five games.
ON THE HORIZON -- Following this Wednesday's road test, Marquette plays at Charlotte on Friday (Nov. 2) before returning home on Sunday (Nov. 4) to play Cincinnati in the final home match of the season. The match against the Bearcats will start at 2:00 p.m.
AMOBI NAMED C-USA PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Freshman Jennifer Amobi (Silver Springs, Mary.) was named the C-USA Player of the Week after helping the Golden Eagles to victories over Loyola, Memphis, and Saint Louis. Over the three matches, Amobi totaled 40 kills, registered a 38.6 attack percentage (40-6--88), and totaled three block solos. Against Saint Louis, she notched 17 kills (second high on the club) and posted a season-best 46.9 attack percentage (17-2--32).
MARQUETTE TEAM AND PLAYER NOTES -- In conference games, Marquette owns a 23.6 attack percentage while opponents are hitting just 19.5 percent against the Golden Eagles ... Senior captain Tarah Beyer (Rockford, Ill.) came up with a career-best 13 digs in the Saint Louis match ... Entering the DePaul match, Amobi has manufactured eight straight double-figure kill outings ... Over the weekend, sophomore Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) became just the fourth different MU player to record 1,000 assists in a season ... Greer has 1,058 assists, good for fifth place on the school's seasonal chart ... Senior Vesna Grbavac's (Palatine, Ill.) 365 kills ties her with Chris Curtin (1997) for 10th place on the school's seasonal ladder ... Career-wise, Grbavac has 1,054 kills, third on the MU all-time list ... As a team, the Golden Eagles hit 35.7 percent (49-9--112) against Memphis last Friday, tying the team's high mark of the campaign ... Marquette's 7-4 league mark represents the program's best 11-game record in C-USA play since the league's inception in 1995 ... Senior Mehgan Devine's (Harris, Minn.) two block solos vs. Saint Louis enabled her to tie Cindy Hey (1988-91) for the No. 1 spot on MU's career chart in that category with 98.
