MILWAUKEE - The Marquette women's basketball coaching staff will hold its second annual coaching clinic on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Marquette Gymnasium. Cost of the clinic is $30 or $25 each for three or more coaches from the same staff. Registration begins at 10 a.m. The clinic is set to begin at 11 a.m. and will run through 5 p.m.
Nell Fortner, head coach of the WNBA's Indiana Fever and coach of the gold medal-winning 2000 U.S. Olympic Team will be on hand to address those in attendance and participate in demonstrations. In addition to coaching on the professional and international levels, Fortner has significant experience in coaching women's college basketball. After a successful career as an assistant coach, she served as head coach of the Purdue Boilermakers during the 1996-97 season. In that year, she was Big Ten Coach of the Year and led the Boilermakers to a Big Ten title and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
The clinic, which was a huge success last year, should be even bigger with the addition of Fortner to the program. Clinic attendees will get the opportunity to watch portions of a Marquette women's basketball practice, with drills and demonstrations from the Marquette coaching staff and Fortner.
MU head coach Terri Mitchell and Fortner will provide a discussion after the practice on coaching practices and philosophy. Also included in the cost of the clinic is a clinic gift and a pizza lunch.
The Marquette Gymnasium at 1532 W. Clybourn Ave. will serve as the location for the clinic. Advanced registration is necessary, however, payment for the clinic is handled on site. To register by phone, call (414) 288-5784. To register by FAX, dial (414) 288-5282.
