Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team saw its run in the Conference USA Tournament come to an end Saturday afternoon as Louisville defeated the Golden Eagles in three games. The Cardinals advanced to the league finals following a 30-21, 30-24, 30-25 win over MU. The setback dropped Marquette's record to 19-12 overall while Louisville raised its record to 23-5. Marquette entered the match as the No. 6 seed in the tournament while Louisville held down the No. 2 seed.
Seniors Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) and Vesna Grbavac each recorded a team-leading 13 kills to lead Marquette. Grbavac was back in the lineup this afternoon after missing yesterday's match against South Florida with a case of the flu. Sophomore Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) and freshman Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) each chalked up eight digs while Greer also finished with 39 assists.
Louisville kept Marquette's offense bottled up for the majority of the match with the Golden Eagles finishing with a 12.5 hitting percentage compared to U of L's 27.7 percent. The Cardinals enjoyed a 60-48 advantage in digs along with a 10-4 margin in total blocks.
