MILWAUKEE (AP) - Cordell Henry scored a career-high 31 points, including a personal-best six 3-pointers Sunday to lead Marquette to a 102-49 victory over Chicago State.
Dwyane Wade added 19 points for Marquette (2-0). Danny Osby, a Milwaukee native, scored a team-high 10 points for Chicago State (0-1).
It was Henry, however, that dominated the game. He shot 9-of-12 from the field, 6-of-8 from 3-point range and was 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. He also had five rebounds and three assists in 28 minutes.
The senior guard, who established his previous career-high in points (28) and 3-pointers (5) last season, scored 23 points and outscored Chicago State by four points in the first half. He was 7-of-9 from the field, including 6-of-7 from three-point range.
Marquette was 8-of-12 (66.7 percent) in the first half and finished the break with a 50-19 lead.
Chicago State, which was 2-13 on the road last season, took its only lead of the game at 8-5 with 16 minutes, 38 seconds left in the half.
Marquette responded with a 23-3 run over the next 8:20, holding Chicago State to one field goal, to take control.
With the score tied 11-11, Marquette scored 17 consecutive points as Chicago State went scoreless for a stretch of 6:58. The Cougars shot 22.2 percent in the game.
The Golden Eagles ruined the return of Bo Ellis, a former All-American and assistant coach at Marquette. Ellis, one of five players to have their jersey retired at Marquette, is the school's all-time field goal leader.
