Women's Soccer Downs Houston in OT, 2-1

MILWAUKEE- Marquette's Carolyn Klopp had the game-winning goal at the 112:09 mark and added an assist as second-seeded Marquette held off seventh-seeded Houston, 2-1 in double overtime in the first round of the Conference USA Tournament Wednesday night at Valley Fields. With the win, MU improves to 15-4 and meets third-seeded Charlotte in Thursday's 7:30 p.m. semifinal. UH closes its season at 8-9-1.
Conference USA Player of the Year Kate Gordon put the Golden Eagles on the board first at the 13:25 mark on assists from Klopp and Ashley Spakowitz. It was the 35th goal of Gordon's career, and the junior needs three more to move into a tie for third on C-USA's all-time list.
The Cougars responded with a goal at the 36:42 mark when Nikki Hawkins found the net on an assist from Jennifer Allen. Marquette posted a 20-9 advantage on shots and a 6-2 advantage on corner kicks. Houston's Robin Cate recorded six saves in goal, while Ashleigh Koenig had five saves for Marquette.
Top-seeded Cincinnati (16-3) meets fifth-seeded UAB (11-8-0) in Thursday's 5 p.m. semifinal, while Marquette meets Charlotte at 7:30.
