MISSION, Kansas - Two Marquette women's soccer players have been named to the 2001 NSCAA/adidas Scholar-Athlete All-America Team. Junior defender Diana Detrie (Green Bay, Wis.) and junior forward Erin Maysent (Ames, Iowa) were the two Golden Eagles honored for their success on the field and in the classroom.
Detrie and Maysent are two of 33 players selected to the team. All will be honored at the All-American luncheon, which will be held on Jan. 19, 2002, in conjunction with the NSCAA Convention at the Philadelphia Marriott Hotel.
Detrie, a Second Team Scholar-Athlete All-American, was a Third Team All-Conference USA selection after helping the Golden Eagles to a 16-6-0 overall record and their third straight NCAA Tournament appearance. She boasts a 3.74 GPA in accounting and helped Marquette finish second in the league in both goals allowed (15) and goals against average (0.68). She also had one goal - the match winner against Iowa - and one assist on the year.
Maysent, a Third Team Scholar-Athlete selection, owns a 3.9 GPA in English/Economics. The Ames, Iowa, native finished her third MU fall with two goals and one assist for five points. She played a pivotal role in helping Marquette make its sixth straight Conference USA Tournament finals appearance.
The two Marquette players were among four Conference USA players to make the team. C-USA had more student-athletes honored than any other conference.
