Barth Places Second in 5,000 Meters

KNOXVILLE, Tenn - Marquette runner Susan Barth placed second in the women's 5,000 meter invitational held at the Sea Ray Relays in Knoxville, Tenn.
Barth, a standout distance runner for the Golden Eagles, placed second in the 16 runner field with a time of 16:65.74. She finished behind Marjo Venalainen of Kennesaw State who finished more than 15 seconds ahead of Barth. Barth finished nearly 20 seconds ahead of third place Jenn Feenstra of Georgia State. She was the only MU runner to compete in this event.
Two Marquette runners competed in the open 10,000 meters. Jackie Swan finished in sixth place (38:03.26) and Sarah McCullough placed 14th (39:18.86) in the 15-athlete field. Toledo's Emily Loroupe won the event with a time of 36:14.54.
The Sea Ray Relays continue through Saturday. Marquette's track team will also be competing on Friday at the Warhawk Invitational in Whitewater, Wis., and part of the MU track team will compete at the LSU Gold Relays in Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday.
