Marquette Quartet Shines at Drake Relays

DES MOINES, Iowa - Three Marquette women's track runners ran times that earned provisional qualification to the NCAA Championships at the first day of the prestigious Drake Relays on Thursday.
Two Marquette runners finished in the top three of the of the 3,000 meter steplechase. Trailing Marget Larson of Colorado State, MU's Briana Dahm and Bethany Harry claimed the next two spots. Larson's time of 10:35.48 won the event, but Dahm and Harry posted strong times as well, finishing at 10:42.42 and 10:46.15 respectively. Both MU runner's times were good enough for provisional qualification to the NCAA Championships.
Susan Barth also turned in an outstanding performance for Marquette in the 10,000 meter run. Finishing second to Kathy Kadziolka of Ball State, Barth ran the distance over a time of 34:54.81, earning provisional qualification to the NCAAs. She trailed Kadziolka by just under 11 seconds. Barth held off Sita Waru of McNeese State by 96-hundredths of a second for second place.
Also for MU, Jeannette Batie competed in the first day of competition. Batie placed fifth in her heat of the 400 meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.24.
The Drake Relays continue Friday and Saturday.
