The U.S. Cellular Arena opened in 1950 as one of the nation's first TV-friendly venues, and it came of age with rock & roll! It has 9,000 permanent seats and capacity for 12,200 persons. Its 24,000 square foot floor has hosted professional and college basketball, hockey, tennis, soccer, boxing, wrestling and motor sports, every genre of music, theater ice show, circus and dance productions, and a wide range of assemblies, banquets and exhibits. A 17,340 square foot exhibit hall is attached at the main floor level.
The U.S. Cellular Arena's configuration puts every spectator close to the action, and it enjoys a reputation as a very intense venue, conducive to fan fervor and formidable to visiting teams. It gained national fame when its Robert Indiana-designed "MECCA" basketball floor was unveiled in 1978.
$10 million in renovations, completed in 1998, include a new video scoreboard, refurbished seats, expanded concourses, a new basketball floor, revamped concession stands, and improved disability access.
The U.S. Cellular Arena is located at 500 W. Kilbourn Avenue, at the corner of Kilbourn and 4th Street.
