MILWAUKEE - Head Coach Tim Grogan and his 2001-2002 Golden Eagle golf team begin their fall season Saturday and Sunday (Sept. 15-16) at the Hawkeye Intercollegiate in Iowa City, Iowa. The 54-hole tournament has the teams playing 36 holes on Saturday and the final 18 on Sunday at the 7,030 yard Finkbine Golf Course.
The Golden Eagles are one of 15 teams in the field that includes Cincinnati, Illinois, Michigan St., Notre Dame, and Wisconsin. Last year the Golden Eagles finished 7th out of 11 teams.
Junior Matt Hilton (Muskego) and Sophomore Ryan Weber (Vancouver, B.C.) lead this year's team that does not have a senior on the roster. Hilton averaged 75.8 last year and Weber averaged a 77.3. The Golden Eagles graduated three of their top four players from last year and will look for help from a talented freshman group.
The par-72 competition begins with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. both days and the University of Iowa will be looking to defend last year's title. Following this weekend's play, the Golden Eagles will travel to Indianapolis for the Butler University Fall Invitational Sept. 24-25.
