Marquette Volleyball Loses To South Florida

Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team dropped a four-game decision to South Florida Friday evening in a match played at the MU Gymnasium. The Bulls of USF posted a 30-22, 27-30, 30-26, 30-24 over the Golden Eagles, raising their overall record to 8-3, 2-0 in Conference USA. Marquette saw its record slip to 5-6 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Leading the way for MU was senior outside hitter Vesna Grbavac with 20 kills along with 12 digs. Senior middle Mehgan Devine (Harris, Minn.) posted 14 successful attacks while freshman Jennifer Amobi (Silver Springs, Mary.) chalked up 13 kills.
USF was paced by junior outside hitter Michelle Collier who registered game highs in both kills (21) and digs (19).
For the match, Marquette finished with a 21.8 attack percentage (58-22--165) compared to USF's 24.6 percent mark (69-28--167). USF finished with more digs (76-55) and recorded a 6-5 advantage in total blocks.
Marquette returns to action on Saturday (Sept. 29) when it hosts UAB at the MU Gym. The match will begin at 7:00 p.m.
