Milwaukee -- The Marquette volleyball team snapped a three-match losing streak Tuesday evening when it defeated UW-Green Bay at the Phoenix Center on the UWGB campus. The Golden Eagles raised their overall record to 10-17 following a 33-31, 30-23, 30-25 triumph over the Phoenix whose record slipped to 9-13.
Leading a balanced Marquette attack was sophomore Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) with 16 kills, her fourth straight and 13th match of the year with double digits in that category. Freshmen Theresa Coughlin (Chicago) and Aga Niemcezewsak (Vernon Hills, Ill.) chipped in 15 and 13 attacks, respectively. Sophomore Erin Freer (Stevensville, Mich.) totaled a match-high 17 digs while sophomore Sarah Vernon (Englewood, Col.) and freshman Caitlin O'Brien (Wauwatosa, Wis.) registered 13 digs each.
For the match, Marquette finished with a 15.6 hitting percentage compared to UW-Green Bay's 14.8 percent. The Golden Eagles posted a 63-56 edge in digs while the Phoenix enjoyed a 10-7 margin in total blocks.
Marquette returns to Conference USA action this Friday (Oct. 18) when it hosts Southern Miss starting at 7:00 p.m. at the Marquette Gym.
