Marquette Volleyball Hosts C-USA Foes This Weekend

MATCH INFO - After snapping a three-match losing streak with a win over UW-Green Bay on Tuesday, the Marquette volleyball team returns to Conference USA action this Friday and Saturday (Oct. 18-19) when it plays host to Southern Miss and Tulane, respectively. Both matches will be played at the Marquette Gym and begin at 7:00 p.m.
THE COACHES - Marquette is directed by first-year head coach Pati Rolf (North Dakota State, '92) who was appointed to her current position on May 10, 2002. Heading into this weekend, Rolf has a 15-year career won-lost slate of 320-176 including a 10-7 effort at Marquette. She joined the Golden Eagles following a successful 14-year career at Minnesota-Duluth where she compiled a 310-169 won-lost slate.
Southern Miss Head Coach Santiago Restrepo (East Stroudsburg State, 1986) is in his second season at the helm of the USM program and has a record of 20-28. In five seasons of head coaching, Restrepo has a career slate of 95-60.
Tulane Head Coach Betsy Becker (Catholic, 1992) is in her fourth year guiding the Green Wave and checks into the weekend with a school record of 58-58. In seven years as a head coach, Becker has a 136-116 mark.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette claims an overall record of 10-7 (1-3 C-USA) following a three-game win at UW-Green Bay on Tuesday, 33-31, 30-23, 30-25.
Southern Miss stands 11-9 overall, 2-2 in the league. In its most recent outing, USM posted a three-game win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Monday.
Tulane enters a Friday night match at DePaul with an overall record of 12-10, 2-2 in C-USA. Tulane currently is on a three-match win streak.
SERIES NOTES - Marquette holds a 5-4 edge in the all-time series against Southern Miss. Last year, MU ventured to Hattiesburg and came away with a four-game triumph.
The series between Marquette and Tulane is tied at four wins apiece. The Green Wave hosted the Golden Eagles last season and came away with a four-game win.
ON THE HORIZON -- Following this weekend's home action, Marquette plays at Saint Louis next Friday (Oct. 25) before facing another road test at Memphis on Saturday (Oct. 26).
MARQUETTE PLAYER & TEAM NOTES - Freshman Theresa Coughlin's (Chicago) 15 attacks vs. Wisconsin-Green Bay marked her fifth straight and 13th match of the year with double digits in that category ... Coughlin is averaging a team-high 4.57 kills per game and hitting a team-best 26.3 percent in league contests ... The Golden Eagles enjoyed a balanced attack against UW-Green Bay with sophomore Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) and freshman Aga Niemcezewska (Vernon Hills, Ill.) picking up 16 and 13 kills, respectively ... Erin Freer's (Stevensville, Mich.) 17 digs represented her third-highest total of the year and her 10th match of the campaign of double digits in that category ... Freer enters Friday's action with 400 career digs to her credit ... Junior Gemma Greer (Winfield, Ill.) is 10 assists shy of reaching the 2,600-career mark ... MU's two service errors in the UW-Green Bay match represented the team's best effort in that category this season.
