Marquette Volleyball Hosts Louisville and Cincinnati This Weekend

MATCH INFO -- After playing 10 if its first 13 matches on the road, the Marquette volleyball team looks forward to a pair of home contests this weekend. The Golden Eagles host Louisville on Friday (Oct. 4) before entertaining defending regular-season Conference USA champion Cincinnati on Saturday (Oct. 5). Both matches will be played at the MU Gym and will start at 7:00 p.m. (CST).
THE COACHES -- Marquette is directed by first-year head coach Pati Rolf (North Dakota State, ,92) who was appointed to her current position on May 10, 2002. Heading into this weekend, Rolf has a 15-year career won-lost slate of 319-173 including an 9-4 effort at Marquette. She joined the Golden Eagles following a successful 14-year career at Minnesota-Duluth where she compiled a 310-169 won-lost slate.
Louisville Head Coach Leonid Yelin is in his seventh season at the helm of the Cardinals, program and posts a school record of 152-52. In 12 seasons as a head coach, Yelin has a career ledger of 266-88.
Reed Sunahara (UCLA, 1984) is in his third season as the head man at Cincinnati and has a school mark of 54-24. In five years as a college head coach, Sunahara posts a career won-lost showing of 73-64.
THE RECORDS -- Marquette claims an overall record of 9-4 (1-0 C-USA) following a three-game win against East Carolina on Sept. 28, 30-23, 30-28, 30-24.
Louisville comes to town with an overall record of 10-3 and stands 1-0 in conference action following a five-game win over Cincinnati last weekend.
The Bearcats of UC head into a Friday night match at DePaul with an overall effort of 7-6, 0-1 in C-USA.
SERIES NOTES -- Louisville holds an all-time record of 10-3 against Marquette. The Golden Eagles and Cardinals split two meetings last year with Marquette winning at Louisville and UofL posting its win in the C-USA Tournament.
Cincinnati stands 20-3 all-time against Marquette. Last year UC claimed both contests against Marquette.
ON THE HORIZON -- Marquette takes to the road next Saturday (Oct. 12) when it plays at Charlotte. Then on Tuesday, October 15, the Golden Eagles will venture to UWGB.
MARQUETTE PLAYER & TEAM NOTES -- Through matches played Sept. 30, Marquette stood No. 3 among C-USA teams in attack percentage (.236) ... Freshman Theresa Coughlin,s (Chicago) team-high 14 kills against East Carolina last weekend, marked her ninth outing of double digits in that category this season ... Coughlin stands second on the club in attacks with a 3.59 per-game mark ... Senior Danielle Hagen (Milwaukee) enters the upcoming weekend one dig shy of reaching the 750-career mark ... Sophomore Sarah Vernon (Englewood, Col.) recorded a season-high seven kills vs. East Carolina ... At the start of the week, sophomore Shannon Devine (Harris, Minn.) held down the No. 4 spot among C-USA players in blocks (1.20 bpg) ... Marquette has outhit nine opponents this year and stands 9-0 in thos games ... Entering this weekend, Marquette has won 13 of its last 16 home matches.
