Milwaukee -- The 2002-03 Marquette men's basketball team makes its season debut this Saturday (Nov. 2) when its plays Team Nike in an exhibition game. Tip off is at noon and the contest will be held at the Bradley Center. Saturday's outing is the first of two exhibition affairs that the Golden Eagles will play with the final one taking place on Sunday, Nov. 10, against the Wisconsin All-Stars. That game will start at 7:00 p.m. and be held at the Bradley Center. Saturday's game can be heard locally on WISN-AM (1130) with Steve "The Homer" True and George Thompson providing the play-by-play and analysis, respectively.
Fourth-year Head Coach Tom Crean and his squad are eager to get out onto the floor after practicing since Oct. 12.
"I think that our players will be excited to play in the Bradley Center and in front of our fans," said Crean. "To have an opportunity to play another opponent and not beat up on each other is great for them. What we are looking to get out of it is to see what we need to work on to get ready for our next game and as we move toward Nov. 15. Our practices have been full of energy and enthusiasm but now we need to get our execution down, especially on the defensive end, and improve upon our rebounding. I'll be anxious to see where we are with that.
"As for Team Nike, they'll be well coached with Glenn Sergent and will some former college stars such as Dedric Willoughby from Iowa State and Exree Hipp from Maryland. They bring size to the game as well as quickness and good outside shooting."
