MILWAUKEE - Head women's soccer coach Markus Roeders has announced the promotion of Frank Pelaez to Associate Head Coach.
"I am very pleased that Marquette was able to promote Frank to this position," Roeders said. "He has played an immeasurable part in our program's success over the past six seasons, and this move directly reflects Frank's importance within our program. He is not only an outstanding coach and recruiter, but also a great ambassador of Marquette University."
Pelaez is in his sixth season at Marquette and has been part of Roeder's staff since he became head coach at Marquette in 1996. Pelaez has been instrumental in Marquette's success in women's soccer. He has helped he program to a 97-29-10 record over those six years, three Conference USA titles and three consecutive berths in the NCAA Tournament. He also served as an assistant coach with the Marquette men's team last season, aiding the Golden Eagles to a 12-8-1 mark.
"This is a tremendous statement about the strengths that Frank brings to this program," Assistant Athletics Director Kathryn Statz said. "We are thrilled to publicly recognize his talents and accomplishments in this way."
Prior to coaching at Marquette, Pelaez served as head boys and girls coach at A.C. Reynolds High School in Asheville, N.C. In four seasons as a head coach at Reynolds, Pelaez compiled an overall mark of 88-21-6 and earned Western Carolina Coach of the Year honors for both boys and girls in 1995 and 1996. He was also the Boys' Coach of the Year in 1993. Under his guidance, both the boys' and girls' teams earned their first conference titles in school history. In addition, both teams qualified for the state quarterfinals three times.
A native of Cartagena, Colombia, Pelaez also was head coach of the North Carolina Boys Select A-Division club team for four seasons. He is currently a Wisconsin State Olympic Development Program coach.
Pelaez was a four-year letterwinner as a defender at UNC Asheville, where he was coached by current Marquette men's soccer coach Steve Adlard and was a teammate of Roeders. He was the Bulldogs' captain as a senior, and graduated from UNC Asheville in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in visual arts.
Pelaez has a "C" coaching license and has worked as an instructor at Marquette University's summer soccer camps for the past five years. He has been camp director at several additional camps, including the Soccer Express (N.C.) Summer Camps and the A.C. Reynolds Summer Soccer Camps.
