HATTIESBURG, Miss. - Cordell Henry scored 21 points, all in the second half, and Dwyane Wade added 16 to lead No. 18 Marquette to a 72-58 victory Saturday night over Southern Mississippi.
Henry attempted only three shots in the first half, but went 6-for-11 from the field and made 9-of-10 free throws in the second.
Marquette (21-3, 10-1 Conference USA) extended its winning streak to 10 games. The Golden Eagles (7-14, 2-9) haven't beaten Marquette at home since 1996 and have lost seven of their last eight games.
Travis Diener made a 3-pointer with 4:05 remaining to give Marquette a 59-49 lead to halt a Southern Miss rally.
Southern Miss trailed by as much as 13 points midway through the second half, but Clement Carter got a rebound and layup to cut Marquette's lead to 56-49 with 4:37 left. The Golden Eagles couldn't get any closer.
There was a scary moment in the game when Southern Mississippi center Ben Lambert was carted off the court after falling hard at the 16:36 mark of the second half.
Lambert jumped for a rebound and hit the floor. Paramedics were called and Lambert was wheeled off the court while wearing a neck brace, and taken to a hospital. His condition was not immediately known.
Lambert, a 6-foot-9 junior, is averaging 7.3 points and 5.8 rebounds per game this season.
Southern Miss, trailing 28-21 at halftime, opened the second half with a 5-0 run to cut Marquette's lead to 30-26. Mario Myles lost the ball near the basket, regained control, and made a layup to cut the lead to four.
Henry responded with two straight baskets and another at the 14:34 mark to extend Marquette's lead to 38-28.
Carter led Southern Mississippi with 15 points, and Elvin Mims had 14.
Odartey Blankson had 16 rebounds for Marquette.
