NAVARRE, Fla. - MU freshman Nathan Colson (Plymouth, Wis.) and junior Matt Hilton (Muskego, Wis.) lead the Marquette pack and are amongst a bevy of golfers with the shot at the top 10 in the Conference USA Men's Golf Championships. Colson and Hilton are in a five-way tie for 14th place at one over par, 143.
Leader Bret Guetz of TCU and second place finisher Evan Frederick of Saint Louis are running away from the field. Guetz is at 10-under, while Frederick chases two strokes behind. Colson shot a 73 today to fall from 12th to 14th place. Hilton shot an even par 72 to improve to one-over for the tournament.
TCU maintained its lead through the first two days of the tournament. Guetz fired a four-under-par 68 to maintain his first place individual standing and give TCU a five stroke lead. The Horned Frogs' second round score of 283 is the third-best round in league championship history.
UAB is five shots off the pace at three over (579), but nearly matched TCU's score for the day. The Blazers shot a 284. Southern Miss and South Florida are tied for third at six over. Houston, seeking its sixth straight C-USA men's golf title, is in fifth at eight-over. Marquette is in 14th place with a 35-over, 611.
Rounding out the roster for Marquette, junior Mike Everson (Muskego, Wis.) matched his first round 81 to sit at 18-over in 62nd place. Freshman Jason Gaare (Elmhurst, Ill.) shot an 80 and is at 20-over in 65th place. Freshman Justin Christensen (Sioux Falls, S.D.) is in 67th place at 166.
